The Children's Hospital East Tower Addition

Miro is expanding the boundaries of traditional structural engineering services for this new ten-story, $110 million addition to the highly successful Children’s Hospital, which opened in 2007.

In addition to serving as engineer of record, the Miro structural team developed the fabrication drawings for foundation and basement wall reinforcing steel. Data from the design Building Information Model was directly exported to the reinforcing model.

By eliminating the need for a separate detailing entity, 6 weeks was saved from the project schedule. Design changes were incorporated into fabrications within hours, versus weeks in a traditional delivery model.

The accuracy of the model allowed the bid quantity to be reduced from 627 to 550 tons, a 12% material savings.
