Sustainability, Energy & Environmental Complex (SEEC)

Miro provided civil and structural engineering for the Lab Building located on the University of Colorado’s East Campus in Boulder. The new Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex (SEEC) brings together more than a dozen programs and industry partners under one roof.

The new facility is a four story, 84,000 square foot wet laboratory building and is located directly south of the existing MacAllister Building.  Existing parking areas, drive lanes and landscape areas were demolished to make room for the new building. A new physical connection is planned between the Wet-Lab and the MacAllister Building. The project was sited to be outside the 100-year flood plain. New domestic water, fire, sanitary, and storm services were constructed.

CU’s historically progressive goals for sustainability were heightened on the SEEC project, especially since the building’s programs include the Renewable & Sustainable Energy Institute, the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research, environmental studies and the Dept. of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. The total construction value of both projects was $73 million.
