Structural engineering services for a new, 179,000 square foot arts building for the University of Colorado. The project is a four-story building with a structural basement slab-on-void. The basement houses an auditorium and several faculty and graduate student offices; the first floor contains several exhibition galleries and classroom studios; the second floor has a large collection storage area and a machine room in addition to more studios and offices; the third floor is mostly comprised of additional studio and office space; the fourth floor houses mechanical space and classroom studios. The primary structural system consists of cast-in-place concrete (pan joists, girders, columns, and shearwalls) with areas of structural steel to support the sloped tile roofs.
The project has achieved LEED Gold certification.
